On a wet and windy Tuesday our sheep in The Roman Gardens were restored back to their former glory. Many thanks should go to Keith Hamlett and Con McGuiness who braved the elements to apply epoxy resin, cement, and paint to Ted Roocroft’s sheep sculpture. Keith travelled from his home in Wales to do this stirling work. They worked from the early morning to late afternoon with a quick break for sandwiches and a cup of tea. Often whilst they worked both men would reminisce over their friend, Ted. Finally, after the job had been completed, we all stood in silence. A poignant moment.
I think this has been a wonderful achievement for the Castlefield Forum to bring two former pupils and friends of Ted’s back to Manchester to fix up the sheep which could have easily been forgotten.
